Bill Pilkington

Bill Pilkington is the kind of person who seems to measure a good year not by the returns he files, but by how well the people behind them were cared for along the way.

Steady, hardworking, and quick to make you smile, Bill has carried those qualities through more than three decades of serving Houston businesses and families, and it is the reason people who have worked alongside him tend to describe him not by the numbers he manages, but by how much lighter things feel once he is in their corner. He describes his own job as adding the human touch to the numbers game, and he means it. He even gave himself the title Head Chef and Chief Bottle Washer, his good-humored way of saying that whatever the people counting on him need, from the biggest decisions to the smallest details, he takes care of it personally.

That instinct runs through much of Bill's life and work. A Texas A&M graduate in accounting and finance, he spent years as a partner in Houston CPA firms before building a practice of his own, where he works closely with real estate investors and syndicators. His philosophy is simple: get the answers out early, stay close to clients all year long, and come to the table with ideas. He wants the people he serves to feel that someone is thinking about their business even when they are not, and that the person doing the thinking actually understands what they do.

But the truest picture of Bill is how he gives his time. For more than thirty years, day or night, he has answered the call as a volunteer firefighter with the Ponderosa Fire Department, showing up for his neighbors when it matters most. He and his wife, Marva, raised their two children in the Klein community, and wherever his family went, Bill followed with his sleeves rolled up. When his son joined Scouts, he became the Cubmaster. When the kids played sports, he coached. When their classrooms needed a parent to read aloud, he showed up with a book. And when the school district needed people willing to serve, he gave six years to the Klein ISD Board of Trustees, finishing as its President, an experience he calls truly life changing and one he feels blessed to have been part of. Whatever time is left, he spends running, more than thirty marathons and triathlons and the occasional fifty kilometer trail run, the quiet endurance behind the easy laugh.

Bill is fond of an old railroad saying: it ain't the whistle that pulls the train. The whistle gets the attention, but the engine does the work. And whether in the firehouse, the boardroom, or somewhere around mile twenty, Bill has always been happy to be the engine.
